Some important things you need to know about channel letters

When talking about signs, the first thing come to people's mind should be channel letters. Actually over 90% of the wall signs we see today are channel letters. They might look similar, but actually not. Below are some important things you might interested, if you thinking of make a new signs for your business or upgrade & refurbish your existing ones .

What is the similarities and differences between front lit and reverse lit channel letters


Front Lit channel letters are the most popular and cost effective choice. They are usually attached to a 2"(d) x 6"(h) or 2"(d) x 8"(h) wire-way then mounted on the wall. To install with the wire-way is just to ease the installation and help reduce the damage to the facade.

They can also be installed directly on the wall as individual letters. This way will need to spend more time on the installation and the cost will be higher compare to the wire-way installation. But they will be of more nicely looking .




Individual Installation Details

Reverse Lit Channel Letters, also called halo letters, are constructed from aluminum and the lighting is directed to the back.

This light floods the wall that the letter is mounted to and creates a negative space at night. It is usually the most expensive form to manufacture. LEDs are installed to the inside back of the can, and the back is often fitted with a clear or translucent plastic back to diffuse the light and protect the lighting elements and wiring.

The letters are typically mounted 1-1/2" from the wall so they are set off from the facade of the building. The inside of the can is often painted white to reflect light. The effect of the halo lighting allows for a variety of creative effects.


Stand-Off installation details

The front & back lit channel letters is the combination of front- and-back-lighting to create a dramatic effect. It’s one of the most striking designs you can choose in terms of illumination.

They also have a clear poly-carbonate back to prevent animals from nesting in the letters. And they are also typically mounted 1-1/2" from the wall so they are set off from the facade of the building.
